MUKHRIZ CALLS TUNKU AZIZ’S ‘SECRET PACT’ BLUFF: DR M, MUHYIDDIN & KIT SIANG TO TESTIFY AGAINST PRO-NAJIB MACC PANEL CHIEF

KUALA LUMPUR: Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad will be called to give to give testimony in Datuk Seri Mukhriz Maahathir’s defamation suit against Tunku Abdul Aziz Tunku Ibrahim.

Mohammed Haniff Khatri Abdulla, the former Kedah mentri besar’s counsel told reporters Tuesday that Dr Mahathir is among six witnesses to be called to give evidence in the suit, which has been fixed for trial on Nov 27 and Jan 11, 12, 18 and 19 next year.

“Other witnesses to be called are former deputy prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, DAP leader Lim Kit Siang, journalist Alya Azhar, a commissioner of oaths and my client (Mukhriz),” Mohamed Haniff said after meeting High Court judge Justice Nor Bee Ariffin.

He said the court also fixed Aug 4 for final case management.

Meanwhile, Tunku Abdul Aziz’s counsel Ooi She Yi said they would call three witnesses, including the defendant himself.

In he suit filed on Feb 7, Mukhriz claimed that Tunku Abdul Aziz, the former DAP national vice-chairman, had made statements about an alleged pact to make Mukhriz the prime minister and Lim as deputy prime minister.

Mukhriz said that on Dec 30 last year, Tunku Abdul Aziz made a statement entitled “Memang wujud pakatan sulit Antara Tun Mahathir dan Kit Siang – Tunku Aziz (secret pact between Tun Mahathir and Kit Siang – Tunku Aziz)” in the AIDCNews blog, where some of the words were allegedly defamatory.

The statement was published in various media, portals and blogs, and Mukhriz denied the allegation on Jan 1 to restore his reputation.

In the statement of claim, Mukhriz said that on Jan 3, the defendant published a media statement entitled “Tunku Abdul Aziz Gesa Mukhriz, Kit Siang buat akuan bersumpah (Tunku Abdul Aziz urges Mukhriz, Kit Siang to make sworn statement)”, which was published in an online portal.

He claimed that the statement, if read in its overall context, is understood to mean that Dr Mahathir and Lim had conspired in a pact, which was concealed from Opposition leaders and voters, that he would be appointed prime minister and Lim his deputy if the Opposition wins the 14th General Election.

The Ayer Hitam assemblyman alleged that the context meant that he was directly involved in the pact, that he was not transparent and was dishonest, and that he was power crazy and a man without principles and morals.

Mukhriz is seeking general damages and for the defendant to retract his statements within 14 days of the date of judgment as well as costs and other relief deemed fit by the court.
