NBA MOCK DRAFT: Here’s what the experts are predicting for all 30 first-round picks

The NBA Draft order has been set, and teams are beginning their workouts.

This year’s draft class is considered one of the best in years and could have a big impact on the league.

With the draft just over one month away, we surveyed seven experts’ mock drafts and found the consensus pick for each team. If there was no consensus, we picked among the seven experts for a good pick.

Our experts: Chad Ford of ESPN, DraftExpress, The Ringer, Scott Howard-Cooper of NBA.com, Jeremy Woo of Sports Illustrated, Gary Parrish of CBS, and NBADraft.net.

1. Boston Celtics — Markelle Fultz, G

Experts: 7 of 7

School: Washington

Other possibilities: none

Key expert quote: From Ford: “If they keep the pick, Fultz is the clear choice for them. He can play both the 1 and the 2, he stretches the floor and he has the build to contribute right now.”

2. Los Angeles Lakers — Lonzo Ball, PG

Experts: 7 of 7

School: UCLA

Other possibilities: none

Key expert quote: From Howard-Cooper: “Family issues are a non-factor for front offices because the Ball who will be drafted comes across as grounded, relaxed and, more than anything, a team player. He has great vision and is a pass-first point guard with the basketball IQ to deliver the ball at the right time and the right place.”

3. Philadelphia 76ers — Josh Jackson, F

Experts: 4 of 7

School: Kansas

Other possibilities: Malik Monk (G, Kentucky), Jayson Tatum (F, Duke)

Key expert quote: From Parrish: “He projects as a high-level contributor on both the offensive and defensive ends of the court. He’ll make the Sixers more athletic, right from the jump.”

4. Phoenix Suns — Jayson Tatum, F

Experts: 3 of 7

School: Duke

Other possibilities: Josh Jackson (F, Kansas), De’Aaron Fox (PG, Kentucky)

Key expert quote: From Parrish: “Tatum should in time become a high-scoring wing at the NBA level … The only thing missing, right now, is a reliable 3-point shot that scouts believe can be developed.”

5. Sacramento Kings — De’Aaron Fox, PG

Experts: 6 of 7

School: Kentucky

Other possibilities: Jayson Tatum (F, Duke)

Key expert quote: From Ford: “Fox is the quickest and most explosive guard in the top group of prospects. He also might be the toughest, which should be a godsend for coach Dave Joerger.”

6. Orlando Magic — Malik Monk, G

Experts: 2 of 7

School: Kentucky

Other possibilities: Jayson Tatum (F, Duke), Dennis Smith Jr. (PG, North Carolina State), Jonathan Isaac (F, Florida State)

Key expert quote: From Parrish: “The Magic shot 32.8 percent from 3-point range this season, which ranked next-to-last in the NBA … The athletic combo guard made 39.7 percent of his 3-point attempts this season while averaging a team-high 19.8 points for a Kentucky team that won the SEC and made the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament.”

7. Minnesota Timberwolves — Jonathan Isaac, F

Experts: 5 of 7

School: Florida State

Other possibilities: Malik Monk (G, Kentucky), Dennis Smith Jr. (North Carolina State)

Key expert quote: From Woo: “Minnesota can bring him along slowly in hopes he’ll evolve into a floor-spacing, rebounding jack-of-all-trades that can give Karl-Anthony Towns and Andrew Wiggins plenty of space to operate.”

8. New York Knicks — Dennis Smith Jr., PG

Experts: 4 of 7

School: North Carolina State

Other possibilities: Malik Monk (G, Kentucky), Jonathan Isaac (F, Florida State)

Key expert quote: From Ford: “The Knicks are intent on finding a point guard to pair with Kristaps Porzingis. In some drafts, Smith would be a top-three pick. He’s super athletic, he can score from anywhere on the floor and he’s an above-average playmaker.”

9. Dallas Mavericks — Frank Ntilikina, G

Experts: 4 of 7

School: France

Other possibilities: Lauri Markkanen (PF, Arizona), Zach Collins (PF/C, Gonzaga)

Key expert quote: From The Ringer: “A defensive stopper at the point guard spot with excellent feel, but his rawness leaves his upside a complete mystery.”

10. Sacramento Kings (via New Orleans Pelicans) — Lauri Markkanen, PF

Experts: 2 of 7

School: Arizona

Other possibilities: Zach Collins (PF/C, Gonzaga), OG Anunoby (F, Indiana), Frank Ntilikina (G, France), Justin Jackson (F, North Carolina)

Key expert quote: From Woo: “Markkanen’s calling-card—his shooting—sets him apart from the prospects Sacramento has already amassed, and on a roster rife with holes, his scoring potential makes for a nice investment.”

11. Charlotte Hornets — Zach Collins, PF/C

Experts: 3 of 7

School: Gonzaga

Other possibilities: Frank Ntilikina (G, France), Lauri Markkanen (PF/C, Arizona), Jarrett Allen (C, Texas)

Key expert quote: From The Ringer: “A skilled two-way center who easily projects as a good role player and could reach much higher levels as a scorer.”

12. Detroit Pistons — Donovan Mitchell, G or Justin Jackson, F

Experts: 2 of 7 each

School: Louisville (Mitchell), UNC (Jackson)

Other possibilities: Luke Kennard (G/F, Duke), Zach Collins (F/C, Gonzaga), Lauri Markkanen (PF, Arizona)

Key expert quote: Howard-Cooper on Jackson: “He can impact a game on both sides of the ball with energy, mobility and long arms. He finds openings on the defense to score in a variety of ways while his role has increased each of the last three years, to where Jackson was the leading scorer on a national champion.”

13. Denver Nuggets — OG Anunoby, F

Experts: 3 of 7

School: Indiana

Other possibilities: Jarrett Allen (C, Texas), Justin Patton (C, Creighton), Terrance Ferguson (G/F, Australia)

Key expert quote: Ford: “Even with the possibility he’ll miss next season, I’m not sure the Nuggets will be scared off. They could use a long, athletic player like Anunoby, who can guard five positions on the floor.”

14. Miami Heat — no consensus

Possibilities: Harry Giles (PF/C, Duke), Justin Jackson (F, UNC), Lauri Markkanen (PF, Arizona), T.J. Leaf (PF, UCLA), OG Anunoby (F, Indiana), John Collins (F/C, Gonzaga)

Key expert quote: Howard-Cooper on Leaf: “Nothing about Leaf jumps out as spectacular. The appeal is that he does a lot of things well, with moves around the basket, range out to the three-point line and passing ability, all the more impressive that it’s as a freshman.”

15. Portland Trail Blazers — Ike Anigbogu, C

Experts: 3 of 7

School: UCLA

Other possibilities: T.J. Leaf (F, UCLA), John Collins (PF, Wake Forest)

Key expert quote: From Woo: “Anigbogu’s insanely young, but he’s a rare defensive prospect and explosive athlete who’s already adept at catching lobs and finishing.”

16. Chicago Bulls — Donovan Mitchell, G or Luke Kennard, SG

Experts: 2 of 7 each

School: Louisville (Mitchell), Duke (Kennard)

Other possibilities: Justin Patton (C, Creighton), Terrance Ferguson (G/F, Australia), Kyle Kuzma (PF, Utah)

Key expert quote: Ford on Mitchell: “I’ve had several scouts compare him to a young, pre-injury Eric Gordon. He’s not the shooter that Gordon was coming out of college, but his jumper is coming along, and his ability to play some point could come in handy for the Bulls.”

17. Milwaukee Bucks — Terrance Ferguson, G/F

Experts: 2 of 7

School: Australia

Other possibilities: Jarrett Allen (C, Texas), Justin Patton (C, Creighton), Harry Giles (PF/C, Duke), Donovan Mitchell (G, Louisville)

Key expert quote: From The Ringer: “A superb athlete with extremely streaky shooting ability, though he’s a long-term project and must learn the details of the game.”

18. Indiana Pacers — no consensus

Other possibilities: T.J. Leaf (F, UCLA), John Collins (F/C, Gonzaga), Justin Jackson (F, UNC), Donovan Mitchell (G, Louisville), Luke Kennard (SG, Duke), Jarrett Allen (C, Texas), Bam Adebayo (C, Kentucky)

Key expert quote: Woo on Kennard: “Kennard’s deep shooting ability and savvy decision-making could make him a usable player early on and make life easier for his teammates as Indiana tries to spread the floor.”

19. Atlanta Hawks — Jarrett Allen, C or John Collins, PF/C

Experts: 2 of 7 each

School: Texas (Allen), Gonzaga (Collins)

Other possibilities: Justin Patton (C, Creighton), Luke Kennard (SG, Duke), Justin Jackson (F, UNC)

Key expert quote: Howard-Cooper on Allen: “His level of agility and reach equals the potential to become a good shot blocker and rebounder, and the NBA noticed he strung good games together after a slow start … Front offices love to see upward trajectory.”

20. Portland Trail Blazers (via Memphis Grizzlies) — no consensus

Other possibilities: Ike Anigbogu (PF/C, Gonzaga), Ivan Rabb (PF, California), Bam Adebayo (C, Kentucky), Justin Patton (C, Creighton), Harry Giles (F/C, Duke), Rodions Kurucs (SF, Spain), Hamidou Diallo (SF, Kentucky)

Key expert quote: Woo on Kurucs: “He’s versatile and has the makings of a useful player down the line. Portland’s situation could make him a fit.”

21. Oklahoma City Thunder — Harry Giles, F/C

Experts: 2 of 7

School: Duke

Other possibilities: Justin Jackson (F, UNC), Rodions Kurucs (SF, Spain), Ivan Rabb (PF, California), Terrance Ferguson (G/F, Australia), Luke Kennard (SG, Duke)

Key expert quote: From The Ringer: “Injuries have robbed him of his elite standing in this draft class, but his versatility and athleticism as a big still make him an enticing prospect.”

22. Brooklyn Nets (via Washington Wizards) — Ivan Rabb, PF

Experts: 3 of 7

School: California

Other possibilities: Justin Patton (C, Creighton), Isaiah Hartenstein (PF/C, Lithuania), Terrance Ferguson (G/F, Australia), Jarrett Allen (C, Texas)

Key expert quote: From The Ringer: “His choice to return to Cal didn’t pay off, but still could have appeal as a small-ball center if he improves his shot and presence on defense.”

23. Toronto Raptors (via Los Angeles Clippers) — T.J. Leaf, PF or Tyler Lydon, F

Experts: 2 of 7 each

School: UCLA (Leaf) and Syracuse (Lydon)

Other possibilities: Bam Adebayo (C, Kentucky), Rodions Kurucs (SF, Spain), Jonathan Jeanne (PF/C, France)

Key expert quote: Parrish on Lydon: “Lydon shot 40.0 percent from 3-point range in two seasons at Syracuse … He’ll be a stretch-4 in the NBA and should be capable of cracking a rotation as a rookie thanks to that reliable jumper.”

24. Utah Jazz — no consensus

Possibilities: Ike Anigbogu (PF/C, UCLA), Hamidou Diallo (SF, Kentucky), Ivan Rabb (PF, California), Luke Kennard (SG, Duke), Jonathan Jeanne (PF/C, France), Tony Bradley (PF, UNC), Jawun Evans (PG, Oklahoma State)

Key expert quote: Parrish on Diallo: “Diallo is a 6-5 shooting guard who is an explosive athlete with good skills. He would probably be a lottery talent in next year’s draft.”

25. Orlando Magic (via Toronto Raptors) — no consensus

Possibilities: Frank Jackson (G, Duke), Terrance Ferguson (G/F, Australia), Isaiah Hartenstein (PF/C, Lithuania), Jonathan Jeanne (PF/C, France), Rodions Kurucs (SF, Spain), Donovan Mitchell (G, Louisville), D.J. Wilson (F, Michigan)

Key expert quote: Ford on Jackson: “There’s a good chance he gets drafted as a Jerryd Bayless-esque combo guard who can play the 1 and the 2. The Magic could certainly use a player like that.”

26. Portland Trail Blazers — Isaiah Hartenstein, PF/C

Experts: 2 of 7

School: Lithuania

Other possibilities: Tyler Lydon (F, Syracuse), Rodions Kurucs (SF, Spain), Bam Adebayo (C, Kentucky), Ike Anigobgu (PF/C, UCLA), Dwayne Bacon (G/F, Florida State)

Key expert quote: From Ford: “Hartenstein is an athletic big man who just lacks real refinement in his game. The Blazers can keep him overseas for another year or two.”

27. Brooklyn Nets — Hamidou Diallo, SF or Caleb Swanigan, C

Experts: 2 of 7 each

School: Kentucky (Diallo) and Purdue (Swanigan)

Other possibilities: Frank Jackson (G, Duke), Justin Jackson (F, UNC), Anzejs Pasecniks (C, Spain)

Key expert quote: Howard-Cooper on Swanigan: “[Swanigan] is much improved almost every way, from conditioning to approach to on-court execution. He suddenly has the look of a potential reserve big man, at power forward and possibly some small-ball center.”

28. Los Angeles Lakers (via Houston Rockets) — no consensus

Other possibilities: Ivan Rabb (PF, California), Harry Giles (F/C, Duke), T.J. Leaf (PF, UCLA), Anzejs Pasecniks (C, Spain), D.J. Wilson (F, Michigan), Semi Ojeleye (F, Southern Methodist), P.J. Dozier (SG, South Carolina)

Key expert quote: Woo on Wilson: “If the Lakers indeed enter the Lonzo era, they’ll need athletic bigs who can run with him and space the floor. Wilson checks those boxes, and also possesses good mobility on the defensive end that makes him one of the more interesting stretch-four types in the class.”

29. San Antonio Spurs — Jonathan Jeanne, PF/C

Experts: 2 of 7

School: France

Other possibilities: Jawun Evans (PG, Oklahoma State), John Collins (PF, Wake Forest), Isaiah Hartenstein (PF/C, Lithuania), Bam Adebayo (C, Kentucky), Omer Yurtseven (C, North Carolina State)

Key expert quote: From Ford: “Jeanne was a pleasant surprise at the combine. He was the tallest and longest player measured for the draft and showed toughness, which teams weren’t expecting … he’s the sort of player the Spurs have had luck with in the past.”

30. Utah Jazz (via Golden State Warriors) — no consensus

Possibilities: Hamidou Diallo (SF, Kentucky), Rodions Kurucs (SF, Spain), Jawun Evans (PG, Oklahoma State), D.J. Wilson (F, Michigan), Josh Hart (G, Villanova), Moritz Wagner (F, Michigan), Jordan Bell (F, Oregon)

Key expert quote: Parrish on Hart: “Not every junior who returns for his senior year actually improves his reputation with NBA scouts. But Hart did. He averaged 18.7 points and 6.4 rebounds while shooting 40.4 percent from 3-point range.”
