A man with a knife is holding people hostage in a Newcastle Job Centre, local police have said.
Northumbria Police released a detailed statement on the ongoing situation. Nobody is injured, the force said, and it is in contact with the man involved.
“Several” members of staff are being held, according to the police, and the man is known to the Job Centre branch, which is based in the north east of England.
Roads have been closed around the area as a precaution. The local underground Metro service has also been suspended in the area.
