Dubbed as the Oscars of the aviation industry, the award ceremony honours some of the world’s top airlines for their services.
And among those who scored big at the ceremony is our beloved low-cost airline, AirAsia!
AirAsia reigns supreme after being awarded the World's Best Low-Cost Airline for the ninth consecutive year! Amazing, isn’t it?
Not only that, AirAsia was also named as the Best Low-Cost Airline in Asia.
“We are now nine times world champion. To put it into perspective, Brazil won the FIFA World Cup five times, Michael Jordan was NBA champion six times and Michael Phelps holds the record for most first-place finishes at a single Olympics with eight gold medals,” AirAsia CEO, Tan Sri Tony Fernandes told The Star in an interview.
“We take the world champion title seriously and we will strive to continue to improve for both our guests and shareholders.”
Apart from AirAsia, their long-haul airline sibling, AirAsia X, also bagged a few recognitions at the prestigious award ceremony.
AirAsia X was crowned the World's Best Low Cost Airline Premium Cabin and the World's Best Low Cost Airline Premium Seat.

The most coveted award during the ceremony - the cream of the crop, if you will - The World’s Best Airline of 2017 award went to Qatar Airways.
AirAsia and AirAsia X placed 26th and 45th respectively on the Top 100 Best Airlines of 2017 while Malaysia Airlines placed 31st.
